Identity Check

Steps:

1. Download the Digidentity App: Android | Apple

2. Confirm Your Digital ID Check on GMC Online

   • Log in to GMC Online, select 'My ID checks', then click on 'Digital ID checks'.

   • Indicate that you are ready for the ID check. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

3. Create an Account on Digidentity

   • Open the app and follow the prompts to create your account.

4. Upload Your Identity Document

   • Navigate to the document upload section and submit one of the following valid and original documents:

     • Passport (recommended)

     • Driving License

5. Take a Photo Within the App

   • Ensure the photo must fulfil the following GMC requirements

     • Be passport-style.

     • Be clear and in focus.

     • Exclude other people.

     • Be taken against a plain light-coloured background.

     • Show you facing forward and looking straight at the camera.

     • Not have anything covering the face.

Guidance:

• Complete the Digital ID check within three months after receiving the notification email from GMC upon application completion. This ensures your application proceeds without delays.

Registration Via USMLE

Steps

1. Make an EPIC Account: You will need an unexpired passport photo and a passport-size photo. Costs 100 dollars

2. In about 3 days, your account will be created. You'll get an email from Notarycam to verify your email ID. Fill up the subsequent form. Within a week, you will be contacted by notarycam for ID verification. Make sure you have the ID with you that you used to create the EPIC account. It'll be a short video call.

3. If you had your med school diploma verified by ECFMG when you were applying for your USLMEs, then within 2 weeks they will upload it onto EPIC as well at no extra charge (this saves you the $100 you'd otherwise spend to upload your credentials). If they don't, shoot them an email

4. For your USMLE scores, visit the FSMB website, and pay 70 dollars to send your transcript to GMC.

5. Have a more than 6-month-valid passport ready

6. Have your internship certificates ready. Have your experience certificates of the last 5 years ready.

7. Have your valid IELTS academic test report ready

8. Have your certificate of good standing ready. This is easily obtainable from pmdcs website. They'll email it to GMC.

9. Once the above are ready, WhatsApp GMC (no available on their site under Contact Us). They will ask you a few questions and if you meet the criteria (especially Step 2 CS given before 2020 when the exam use to exist), they will email you a form. Fill it, scan your documents and email it to img@gmc-uk.org. Keep in mind this is only for those who did their step 2 CS before they had cancelled it

10. Then call GMC on the number in the fees section and pay your fees

11. They may ask for additional docs. In my case they asked that I get a doctor who had supervised me for 3 of the past 5 years including 6 of the last 12 months to fill a consultant report form. I got 2 docs (one who fulfilled the 3/5 year category and the other who had fulfilled the 6/12 months category) to fill the forms and send them in from their official email ids. If you have one doc who fulfills both requirements then that works as well

12. Once the application is approved, GMC will invite you for an identity check. Complete that. You will then have to wait upto 10 days for them to manually confirm the identity check. In my case, it was done in a day. 

13. You're now on the GMC register!

Tips

• Apply for GMC within 3 years of passing MRCEM OSCE, otherwise you will be asked for submission of additional documents to prove your experience

• Apply for EPIC verification of MBBS and MRCEM within a year before applying for GMC, otherwise you will have to pay the fee again for submission of EPIC report

• Try avoiding any gaps in clinical practice, or you should have strong explanation for all gaps

• Appear for OET or IELTS as soon as possible within 2 years of GMC application as it is the key to all the opportunity doors

• Income discount should be applied within 3 months of being awarded GMC license.
