Overview
Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, a leading public tertiary care hospital in Pakistan, features comprehensive specialties across medicine and surgery.
Training
The program commenced in 2018 with just four candidates and has since expanded to include over 30 candidates.
Selection for the training is strictly merit-based, involving a comprehensive interview process with the supervisors.
Interested candidates are required to fill out application forms issued by the administration department as a preliminary step in the selection process.
Once enrolled, candidates actively engage in a monthly presentation week, fostering discussions on a range of emergency medicine topics to enhance their learning and collaboration.
Shifts
Morning Shift:
Duration: 6 hours (8 am to 2 pm).
Staffing: At least 4 primary CMOs (Chief Medical Officers).
Evening Shift:
Duration: 6 hours (2 pm to 8 pm).
Staffing: At least 4 primary CMOs.
Night Shift:
Duration: 12 hours (8 pm to 8 am).
Staffing: At least 4 primary CMOs.
In each shift, there are also 2 rotational CMOs from different wards who assist in the ER.
Medical officers are available to conduct rounds and address administrative issues, ensuring efficient patient management and care.
Rotations
Supervisors enable candidates to rotate through multiple departments, enhancing their capability to manage complex emergencies and perform various procedures.
Operations
At the ED entrance, a triage system is managed by senior doctors (senior ER residents) to assess and direct patients appropriately either to the Resuscitation Room (Room 11) or the wards (Room 10).
