Overview
Shifa International Hospital, Islamabad: A 550-bed quaternary care facility, JCI accredited, serving local and international patients for over 30 years.
Department
52-bed emergency department including adult and pediatric sections.
Equipped Resus Area with airway trolleys, trauma trolley, POCUS, and X-ray facilities.
Triage area for initial assessments, leading to further patient placement based on AEWS.
Additional units include a critical care unit, major and minor units, an extension area, and a negative pressure isolation room.
Adjacent radiology and laboratory services for immediate access.
Residency
Five-year comprehensive training according to CPSP guidelines.
Rotations aligned with CPSP standards for diverse clinical exposure.
12-hour shifts totalling 48 hours per week with a 2 days on/2 days off rotation.
Teaching
Bedside teaching for clinical knowledge and procedures.
Weekly Friday sessions covering a modular system, including various educational and evaluative activities.
Special sessions on the first Friday of each month include mortality and morbidity discussions, audits, and journal clubs.
Evaluations include written exams, OSCEs, and quarterly resident assessments.

Training candidates need successful FCPS Part 1 in Medicine and Allied, Surgery and Allied, or Anaesthesia.
