Overview
IHHN ED comprises a 31-bed facility, with 22 beds for adults and 9 for pediatric care.
The department has a total of 5 faculty members: 4 in the adult section and 1 in the pediatric section.
Residency
The residency spans a 6-year contract, with eligibility to take the exam after 5 years, provided there are no deficits.
Led by the Program Director with a total of 5 CPSP-approved supervisors and 4 registrars.
Initial two years include all mandatory CPSP rotations, 6 months in adult ED, and 3 months in pediatric ED.
Extra Rotations after IMM cover Trauma, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, and Nerve Block.
Training
Hands-on experience with invasive procedures.
Access to a Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) machine for advanced diagnostic training.
Friday Core sessions are dedicated to academics and skills evaluation from 8 AM to 2 PM, emphasizing comprehensive development, led by faculty and the chief resident.
PGME evaluations are conducted semi-annually, with an annual exam. A minimum of 70% attendance at academic sessions is required for promotion.

Foreign faculty, 2-3 months every year.
Work
Adult ED shift duties are 12 hours every alternate day, with a balance of night and morning shifts.
Total of 192 working hours per month in ED. During rotations, residents adhere to the schedule of the respective department.
Eligibility
An MBBS degree with a minimum 55% score, recognized by PMC.
Completion of a one-year internship split between Medicine/Allied and Surgery/Allied.
FCPS Part I in Medicine, Surgery, Anesthesia, or Allied, with a preference for Emergency Medicine experience.
Selection based on an MCQ test and interview clearance.
Research
Led by Dr. Sama Mukhtar, the ED research department supports national and international publications and projects, fostering collaboration between faculty and junior residents.
Dates
Annual advertising of the program occurs typically in late October / early November
The written test is scheduled after that.
Interviews for shortlisted candidates are held in Late November / Early December.
Results are announced in December
The program commences on January 1st.
