Training
Emergency Medicine training was initiated in July 2023 for FCPS Part 2 trainees under Professor Mehmood-ul-Rehman.
Requires Part 1 clearance in Medicine, Surgery, or Anaesthesia.
Biannual induction tests in January and July, conducted by LUMHS Jamshoro faculty.
A five-year residency program with specified rotations and a focus on comprehensive emergency medicine education.
Structure
The Emergency Medicine residency spans five years, meticulously designed to offer in-depth knowledge and practical skills.
PGY 1 and 2: Foundational years feature rotations in diverse fields to develop a broad clinical perspective:
Emergency Medicine: 6 months to build core competencies.
Paediatric Emergency: 3 months to understand emergency care in children.
Shorter rotations across Internal Medicine, Neurology, Nephrology, Cardio/CCU (1 month each), Medical ICU, General Surgery (2 months each), and focused experiences in ENT, Ophthalmology (2 weeks each), Orthopaedics, Anaesthesia (3 months each).
PGY 3, 4, and 5: Advanced training focused on Emergency Medicine:
Predominantly stationed in Emergency Medicine (adult and paediatric) for 35 months, ensuring extensive exposure and expertise.
Supplementary 2-week rotations in Radiology, Toxicology, and EMS to enhance specialized knowledge.
Teaching
Daily educational activities are integral, with one hour dedicated each weekday for presentations, fostering a learning environment.
Regular case discussions and journal club sessions are scheduled to encourage evidence-based practice and critical thinking.
The program emphasizes real-time learning and application of knowledge in emergency settings, preparing residents for various emergency scenarios.

Serves over 2000 daily patients, providing extensive facilities like resuscitation bays, rapid assessment areas, gender-specific treatment bays, see and treat area, minor injuries unit, major trauma support, dedicated ICU/HDU beds, and round-the-clock diagnostic services.
Faculty
Comprised of professors, associate professors, senior CMOs, internees, nurses, emergency medical technicians, dispensers, trainee nurses, pharmacists, radiologists, and technical teams, supporting a robust training and service environment.
