Introduction
Founded in 1950 by Syed Wajid Ali Shah and inaugurated in 1958, LNH has grown into the country's largest tertiary care hospital with over 700 beds.
The hospital boasts the largest number of ICU beds and ventilators in the city, covering more than 35 specialities and providing comprehensive 24-hour emergency services.
A pioneer in specialties like breast surgery, hand surgery, arthroscopy, and LASIK, LNH is expanding into the Pediatric Development Unit, Sports Injury Unit, Geriatric Medicine, Pediatric Cardiology, and Cochlear Implant procedures, led by specialized doctors.
Known for its postgraduate training and fellowships across various specialities.
Department
The emergency department is equipment with advanced airway management capabilities, three ventilators, a range of inotropes, an indoor pharmacy, and x-ray services.
Training
Launched in 2020 by Dr. Shaesta Tabasum.
Faculty includes Dr. Muhammad Abid, Dr. Komal Owais, and Dr. Momal Zoya.
A 5-year program aligned with CPSP curriculum, offering rotations in general medicine, surgery, anaesthesia, paediatrics, and more, emphasizing clinical skills and patient accountability.
Rotations
First 2 Years:
General Medicine: 3 months with ICU rotation, working alongside Medicine PGs from patient reception to discharge and OPD follow-up.
General Surgery: 3 months including 4 weeks of Thoracic Surgery, covering a wide range of surgical emergencies.
Anaesthesia: 3 months focused on advanced airway management, ventilator management, and procedural techniques like Central Vein Cannula insertion and Lumbar Puncture.
Paediatrics: 3 months divided into Paediatric Surgery rotation, covering paediatric surgical emergencies and trauma management.
Orthopaedic Surgery: 3 months dedicated to managing limb emergencies, fracture identification, and surgical procedures.
Post IMM:
Radiology: Initially 2 months, extended to 1 month to include ultrasound diagnostics, therapeutic, and CT/MRI learning under a consultant radiologist.
Work
Residents work in a balanced rota designed to prevent burnout.
If working on bank holidays, compensatory off days are provided in the next month's rota to ensure rest and recovery.
Academics
Starts daily at 8 am with meetings for case presentations, journal clubs, and more.
Additional educational sessions are conducted via Zoom every Sunday.
Application
Applications are straightforward, with inductions occurring twice yearly.
Announcements are made online and through newspaper advertisements.
The selection process includes an aptitude test, with interviews conducted by the departmental HOD, HR manager, and a consultant surgeon or physician.
